Kassie's 8th Birthday

"Diva Rock Star"
Don't ask me how or why I came up with the theme for this party. Maybe because at the time, Kassie really thought she was going to be a rock star. This was before Hannah Montana, Camp Rock and all the "singing" Disney shows. She sang and danced in front of mirrors all day long. She was Sassy and all that too. Any time a camera came out, she would pose for pictures, not just lets stand still pose, it was a hands on hip, I'm on the red carpet pose. I guess I played into it, because that is what us mothers do.
We hosted this party at our home. There is a picture of the invitations below. All the kids were instructed to wear their own "Diva" outfit. At the time, I still worked in cosmetics. I was very good friends with all of the vendors, and so they all gave me boxes and boxes of samples for the party. We used the make-up to make the girls into "Divas" and we combed their hair like "Divas". It was very cute. I bought them all headless microphones and inflatable guitars. They made their own Rock Band. I even constructed a pretend stage for them. They had a blast. For candy bags, my mom made them little black satin purses with a purple marabou handle. Not only did these bags have candy in them, but they also had Lancome mascara, a mini Chanel lipstick, perfume and lotion samples etc, etc, It was loaded with mini cosmetics. (I think the moms might have enjoyed the bags more). I think by the end of the party, all the girls were in "Diva" mode.
That year, Hillary Duff was still very popular. I had tried and tried to get Kassie tickets to see her in concert with no luck. It sold out so fast. Buddy surprised Kai with Hillary Duff tickets in Las Vegas. He flew her out to Vegas so that she could see Hillary Duff, actually, he flew us all out. And while I took her to the MGM Grand to the concert, he hit the strip with Nachito. I don't think he had too much fun with an almost five year old. I think to this day, it was probably the best birthday present she has gotten.

Here are pictures of the invitations for Kassie's 13th Birthday party. I had so much fun making them. Hum...maybe because I used my three favorite colors, maybe because I like to make invitations, or maybe it's just because I LOVE to plan parties. Either way, here is a sneak peak. Sorry the pictures are so bad, my camera is dead and I used my phone.

Good things come to those who wait...

I was having one of those bad Mondays. One of those Mondays when everything seems to be going wrong. 1. Our phones at the office are not working. 2. Statements went out over the weekend and angry patients are calling to complain. 3. My coffee got cold and I had to throw it away, and now I have a caffeine headache. 4. My cell phone has been tied up all day because I'm having our calls forwarded to it. (good thing for rollover minutes). 5. My boss has just added two more things to my darker pink "TODO" notebook. And just as I was about to roll up in a ball and hide under my desk, I got this e-mail. Dear Kindle Customer, Today, we introduced Kindle 2, the next generation of our wireless reading device. Because you already ordered the original Kindle and are awaiting its arrival, we're pleased to inform you that we are upgrading your order so that you will receive the new Kindle 2. You will be in the first group to receive Kindle 2, and you will receive yours as soon as K...

Flashback Friday

This Friday, I am participating in two links. My first is with Alicia over at More Than Words . There are only two weeks to go for TDA's Summer Recital. This year it will be held at Higley Performing Arts on June 20 at 7:00. Kassie will be in aproximately 14 dances so far. Might change though. Hopefully it will change to less. : ) Recital is in full swing right now. Every day, you see kids walking out with their costumes. It is so cute. I especially love seeing the little two and three year olds. They are always so excited. This is a picture of Kai in her 2nd Recital with TDA. It was her first year taking more than two classes. I think she was in five or six recital numbers. It was her first official ballet dance. She had never taken a full ballet class. She since has learned to love it. This picture was taken in 2005 making her only nine years old. How fast time goes..... June 2005
