NYC Day 2

Thursday, July 9, 2009
On Thursday morning, I awoke early to go watch the TDA teens compete their Outstanding Dancer solos. I left Kai with Karen and went down stairs to grab a coffee and watch the girls. I believe there were about 100 girls in the Teen division. All of their solos were very spread out, so I watched what I could, then went upstairs to get Kai ready. Her orientation started at 11:00 a.m.
After getting her ready, we went downstairs so that she could turn in her solo music, and draw a number for her solo. She drew #40, so she would be the 40th Junior to perform her solo for Outstanding Dancer. There was a total of 112 Juniors. In the orientation meeting, the girls all received NYCDA bags with personalized NYCDA Jackets and their audition number badges that they were to wear at all times, except when competing on stage. They immediately went into rehearsals for the opening number for the Junior gala with Joey Dowling. While the girls were rehearsing, Karen and I found a very good pizza place down the street from the hotel and we had lunch. We went to Duane Read to buy water, and misc supplies for our rooms. The girls got a break for lunch and we took them to the same restaurant for some pizza.

Kai needed some tan Jazz shoes for the opening number, and I had not had a chance to buy them before we left, so her and I headed to the Capezio store to buy them. Here she is goofing off while we waited for someone to help us.

And, back to rehearsals they went. They had an onstage rehearsal, and it lasted quite a while. After that, the girls just wanted a Jamba Juice for dinner. We arrived at the Jamba Juice in Times Square, and we ran into Twitch from last seasons, So You Think You Can Dance. It was a nice surprise for them. He also had a friend with him, who he told us to take a picture of the girls with because he was starring in the next Step It Up movie.

We then headed to Roxy's (yes, the one with the best cheesecake in the world) for a late dinner, and off to bed to prepare for another crazy day. It would be a busy day for the the girls again. First they had to compete their solos and then rehearsals too. The TDA Teens and Seniors were all done with their solos and they had all done fantastic.

vous êtes conviés

Here are pictures of the invitations for Kassie's 13th Birthday party. I had so much fun making them. Hum...maybe because I used my three favorite colors, maybe because I like to make invitations, or maybe it's just because I LOVE to plan parties. Either way, here is a sneak peak. Sorry the pictures are so bad, my camera is dead and I used my phone.

My life through my iPhone 2

Part II of "My life through my iPhone.                    Saturday was the Marcos De Niza Homecoming!  Kassie and Aaron had a blast!  I was able to finish Kassie's ballroom shoes on Sunday. It was spirit week for Corona del Sol and on Monday it was TV character day.  She dressed as Blaire Waldorf from Gossip Girl.  Corona had a bon fire on Thursday, and the Pommies performed a hip hop routine.  Here is a picture I stole from Instagram. On Saturday evening, the kids decided to carve pumpkins.  Here is Nachito and Chanel getting ready to carve. Kassie and her friend Amanda did some carving too!  These may not be great posts, but it's a start.

Flashback Friday

Joining in with Alicia again. Head on over to her blog to participate. You can get there by clicking here . As promised, I will countdown Kai's birthdays parties every Friday from now on until we reach her 13th Birthday. Come join in Disney fun as Kassandra Paulyna turns one! Saturday, September 6, 1997 From day one, Kai was always smiling. Her cake was made by my sister Ana. Her piñata was bigger than she was. Two pages from her scrapbook, which I haven't kept up with, hence the blog. Kai's first birthday was bitter sweet. I had been planning it for about four months. At the time I was a stay at home mommy and I had nothing better to do. It was bitter sweet, because my dad had passed away two weeks prior to her party. We really considered moving the date or cancelling the party all together, but my mom said that my dad would not want that. So we went ahead with the party. At the time, we lived in Douglas, and parties in Douglas tend to be pretty big. We rented a dan...
